Ngaji Bunyi – “Does Sound Matter?” is a study session by artist Julian Abraham ‘Togar’ in collaboration with Ketakmiran Masjid Jendral Sudirman and Uya Cipriano, which takes place at the Masjid Jendral Sudirman mosque. The main theme of this lecture, ‘Does sound matter?’, refers both to the immateriality of sound (in physics), to sound as material (in art) and its political implications in daily life. Togar will address topics such as the physicality of sound, amplification, distortion, the relation between hearing and listening, whilst asking: ‘When does sound become noise?’, ‘Who has the power to decide?’, ‘How does that same power form public opinion?’ and ‘What does harmony sound like?’.

This event will be documented and presented as part of a video installation during ~IIINNNGGG~, Togar’s solo exhibition at Cemeti-Institut efor Art and Society.
